A collection of kits for Christmas ornaments, but with many more facinating applications. They originated in France in the 18th century as millinery motifs, and then played an important military role during the French Revolution to distinguish the Citizen from the hated Royalist.
They can be made out of any ribbon, but require anywhere from 3 to 6 yards of ribbon depending on the width of the ribbon. A Cocarde or Galette made of beautiful stripe or jacquard ribbon acts as a window into the past, or to be displayed as an art object; made of grosgrain ribbons. They finish a window treatment as tie-backs for draperies. Hang a single ribbon onrament from the key on an armoire. These ornaments make memorable gifts for all occasions.
